According to the well-known theorems of the absence of scalar hair in black holes with a regular event horizon, the dilaton charge of the p-brane in supergravity theories is not an independent parameter. In a scalar-tensor theory with minimal coupling, the asymptotically flat solution with a non-zero scalar charge has a singular horizon. With solution generating techniques via sigma-model representation, here we obtain p-brane solutions, where the dilaton charge is an independent parameter, and then we discuss their properties. For the case of three-dimensional transverse space, we construct solutions with an independent deformation parameter, which represents the deviation from the spherical symmetry. For p = 0 and in the absence of the scalar field, this solution corresponds to the Zipoy-Voorhees solution in general relativity.
