The necessity of searching for new solutions in the study of the state of human health using pulse waves recorded in the far peripheral zone on the basis of a laser radiation absorption signal is substantiated. A new design of an optical sensor has been developed using a CCD line with horizontal charge transfer for recording a pulse wave signal in the form of steps. It has been established that the parameters of the steps reflect the features of the work of the human cardiovascular system, which makes it possible to obtain new information, in contrast to the previously used methods for recording pulse waves. A new technique has been developed to study changes in the shape of pulse wave fronts and crests. The new results obtained with its use on changes in the functioning of the cardiovascular system were confirmed when examining patients on certified medical equipment in a clinical setting
